Forests provide us with enormous benefits and prosperity through the water conservation,soil protection and the provision of recreational opportunities as well as the timber products.
In recent years the public needs on forests and foresty have increasingly expanded and diversified in Japan in pursuit of the well-being with reasonable and substantial satisfaction. The significance of the global role of forests has also been recognized with the growing world-wide concern for the global environment.
The aim of the National Land Afforestation Campaign is to promote the public movement to green our national land,and ultimately to facilitate the cultural development of Japan through the enrichment of the people's life.

1. Tax Exemption


Those who contribute the National Land Afforestation Promotion Organization or the Prefectural Revegetation Promotion Committees (with the status of the special public-service promotion corporation) have the privilege of receiving the following tax exemption: 

  1. In the case of corporations,the ceiling on the amount exempted from the income and corporation taxes is doubled as below;
    ceiling = [(capital*0.25/100)+(income*2.5/100]*1/2 
  2. In the case of indivisuals,the ceiling on the amount exempted from the income tax is set as below; ceiling = contribution (up to income*25/100)- 10,000 yen

2. Commendation

Those who contribute a certain amount or more are commended as follows:

  1. Indivisuals contribute 1 million yen or more and corporations contribute 2 million yen or more are officially commended by the Minister for Agriculture,Foresty and Fisheries as provided by the regulation concerned;and 
  2. Indivisuals contribute 500 thousand yen or more and corporations contribute 1 million yen or more are commended by the Executive Director of the National Land Afforestation Promotion Organization as provided by its regulation concerned.

The raised Fund is allocated to the following activities as duty examined by the Steering Committee comprised of the eminent persons:

  1. Forest improvement activities,such as the conservation and improvement for the private headwater forests,including brush cutting and thinning,and the forest development activities based on the upstream-downstream agreement;
  2. Greening promotion activities,such as the voluntary greening activities by the local communities and youth groups,and the public rerations activities for the greening promotion;and
  3. International greening cooperation activities,such as the international cooperation activities by NGOs for the restoration of tropical forests and combatting decertification,and necessary training and expert assignment for such activities.

The Fund is raised twice a year,namely in February to May (Spring Campaign Period) and in September and October (Autumn Campaign Period).
